Safety during storms

Wind

AT HOME
• Fasten all doors and windows
• Take anything that might be blown away by the wind inside.

 

OUTSIDE
•Avoid places where there is anything that might blow down: tree branches,
walls, advertising hoardings,
street furniture, cornices, buildings under construction...
• Keep away from electricity pylons.


Lightning

AT HOME
•Avoid draughts.
• Disconnect electrical equipment.

 

OUTSIDE
• Avoid high ground and contact with water.
•Do not seek refuge under trees.
• Keep away from cables, iron fences, grills and metal objects.
• A safe place is inside a vehicle.

 

Water

AT HOME
• Take measures to prevent water coming in.
• Keep away from basements and low areas.

 

OUTSIDE
•Keep away from floodable watercourses that might become torrents and do not enter flooded areas either on foot or in vehicles.
• Avoid travel. When essential, keep to main routes.

 

Keep these to hand:

A radio, torch and replacement batteries.

A mobile phone with a charged battery and sufficient fuel for your vehicle.

Protective clothing (waterproofs, Wellington boots, etc.).
