The Consortium for the Recovery|Retrieval of the Fauna of the Balearic Islands (COFIB) freed last Saturday in the Nature Reserve of Mondragó a copy|specimen of sparrow hawk (Aquila pennata) and two copies|specimens of kestrel (I Falco tinnunculus) that have been attended and restored in the last weeks in the COFIB. The three copies|specimens of autochthonous fauna were freed in an appropriate zone nearby to the Sources|Fountains of you Alis, in the inside|inland of the space protected of this nature reserve of the south of Mallorca.

Within the framework of the event|act of the liberation of autochthonous fauna, the biologist of the COFIB Patxi Blasco offered a talk about the work that is carried out from the COFIB and indicated the thirty assistant persons how people have to act if finds an animal injured. The expert of the COFIB also explained the characteristics and the concrete experience of each one of the freed copies|specimens. The sparrow hawk arrived at the COFIB last 28 December after being found with a broken wing in the municipal area of Campos. During the three first weeks in the center it|he was immobilized, and therapies of rehabilitation were practiced for him|her later to put|make ready the articulations|joints and the musculature for him|her. Regarding the kestrels, one was located at the beginning of year in Andratx and entered the COFIB with several traumatisms of unknown cause; the other one suffered a col•lisió with a vehicle after Palma, also at the beginning of this year. Both copies|specimens received treatment antiinflamatori during the first five days in the COFIB, where, later, tests|proofs of flight during the last weeks to insure|assure have been making them be in conditions of being freed in|on the environment again.

Along year 2011 the COFIB registered 17 incomes of sparrow hawks hurt|injured by different motives, among|between which they highlight the traumatisms of unknown origin, injured persons|wounds for features|shots and electrocutions. Regarding the kestrels, during the last year they arrived to the COFIB 133 exemplary ill or injured people for different causes, of which they highlight the fall of lice of the nest, the traumatisms of unknown origin, the wounds for features|shots, the electrocutions of which and the problems of starvation or malnutrition.
