Classification of the category of the establishments of touristic accommodation

The new regulation of the classification of the category of the establishments of touristic accommodation comes in Decree 20/2011 determinate, of 18 March (published in the extraordinary BOIB of 30 March 2011).

The classification in one of the established categories is compulsory, for all the touristic establishments of the Balearic Islands in the following modalities:

- Hotels
- Apartment hotels
- Touristic apartments

In the Decree 20/2011, by which the general disposals|dispositions of classification of the category of the establishments of touristic accommodations are established in hotel, apartment hotel and touristic apartment of the Balearic Islands, they highlight the following characteristics:

System of selfevaluation: the classification of the category of the establishments is of free choice for the interested persons from the fulfillment|compliment of some architectural standards or of essential services that establishes the rule. Each one of the criteria has a determinate punctuation|score assigned. The sum of the points of all the attained criteria and the fulfillment|compliment of some compulsory minimums on the part of the establishment determines the category that corresponds to him|her.

Differentiation of the establishments: the headline|holder of the establishment has to value the customers it|he|she wants which new services to offer in order to increase the category of its|his|her|their establishment and be more competitive. This selfevaluation makes possible the innovation and the specialization of each one of the hotels and apartments because it|he|she facilitates the creation of new products and signs of identity.

Extense range|fan of criteria to access the wished category: the criteria base themselves mostly on the quality and the amount of the services that the establishments can choose to increase of category and to adapt oneself to the new demands|lawsuits of the tourists.

Transparency: each establishment has to publish through its|his|her|their web the selfevaluation and the criteria that it|he|she fulfills with respect to its|his|her|their category. This will give security|certainty to the consumer, who will be able to see the services which it|he|she can have.

In accordance with the transitory third disposal|disposition of Decree 20/2011, the establishments existing and inscribed|registered in the Register|Record of Companies, Activities and Touristic Establishments, at the applicable entry|ticket of the Decree:

-t hey have to make the selfevaluation of the establishment in accordance with the Decree 20/2011, in a deadline|installment of a year.

- In the supposition that the qualification of the selfevaluation does not coincide with the category that they have assigned at present, they have to adapt to the new criteria, make the selfevaluation again and present it|her to the competent administration.

- In the supposition that the adaptation can not be made in the deadline|installment of a year, they have to inform the competent administration. In this case, they have a deadline|installment of a maximum of six years to adapt oneself to the fulfillment|compliment of the requirements and the conditions of the Decree. In the meantime the establishment has to fulfill the requirements and the applicable conditions of the valid legislation in the moment of the inscription in the corresponding register|record and, if it|he|she is proper, in the deadlines|installments of the authorization|accreditation.
